We all shop for things online these days, don't we? Like most people, I try and support our local business and shops wherever possible, but they don't always have the specific things I need.
Just for instance, I needed a locking petrol cap for my little car as it didn't have one and I'd heard reports of people having their fuel stolen from cars without locked fuel flaps – strange, but true. Unfortunately, none of the shops in our area supply such rarely needed goods, but luckily, I managed to find one online and ordered it. Even more luckily, it arrived within a week or so and, to my great delight, it fitted perfectly. Mission accomplished. My fuel supply is safe.
The thing is, though, whenever we order and pay for something on the internet, there's always a risk. I admit it's less so if we use the major online stores, but even then, you can never tell. I've ordered books that haven't arrived after weeks of waiting, but then, having complained and been refunded, the books in question have turned up, which meant, of course, I had to reverse the refund. But even that's not too bad.
What's worse is the situation I'm now in. Zoe is allergic to meat products, so I have to buy vegetarian food for her that's only been available at one particular online store. To my dismay, their supply seems to have dried up, so I went in search of another supplier and this is where I've come unstuck.
I found a site that looked reliable with a good webshop page, so I decided to go for it. Having ordered and paid for not one, but two sacks of her special food, I fear I've been conned. I've had no confirmation of the order, no response to any of my requests for confirmation and an email I sent to the site yesterday has bounced back with the message that it couldn't be delivered.
This kind of issue is something I've heard about from others but it's never happened to me before, and a pet food company is probably the last sort of business I'd expect to be running any kind of scam, but you live and learn, don't you?
Who knows, though, it might turn up eventually. Meanwhile, I'm going to have to try my precious pooch on something completely different, another risk when you have a dog with allergies, but fingers crossed the new recipe will suit her.
Not that she cares. The little minx will eat anything she can get her mouth around! She has the tastes and manners of a gutter snipe, and just this morning I had to spend an hour cleaning her up after she'd rolled in something truly disgusting. I just wish her skin and tum were as forgiving as I am!
Here she is with her best pal, Lucy. Butter wouldn't melt, eh?
Have a good week allemaal, and be careful with your internet shopping. I know I should have checked the store out before buying from them, but that's always the way with hindsight, isn't it?

Poor Zoe...and you! Whenever I have issues like this, I call my credit card company and have them help me out. They offer a lot of protections against fraud. I've always gotten my money back. Have you thought making your own meals for her until you find a reliable source? I used to cook all of Winslow's dinners. There are a lot of vegetarian dog food recipes online. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see you here, Terry. Thank you! Yes, I’ve established I can probably get the payment back, but it seems I have to give the company warning that I’m cancelling the order if they don’t deliver within a fixed time. I’ve done that now, so if it doesn’t come this week, I can put in a request for a reversal of the payment. Sadly, Zoe doesn’t do well on wet food, either. Otherwise, I’d cook for her all the time. She’s the first dog I’ve had who only eats kibble.
DeleteIndeed, I've had that happen to me, but at least with credit cards here in the states, after a phone call, they will cancel the sale and reimburse you, and too bad for the fake website. Those websites, I've learned, always seem to have deals too good to be true.
ReplyDeleteI think you’re right, Janis. I probably would have been more cautious if I hadn’t been so keen to find Zoe’s food. It’s taken a long time to find what suits her, so I jumped at the chance of finding the same brand elsewhere.
DeleteHi Val. This is Janis Couvreux, as was the comment above as well. I always try to sign in with my name but for some reason it is always refused. At any rate, I read your posts all the time and it's fun to watch the progress in France: house, new friends, language...Someday maybe I'll figure out why your blog doesn't want to recognize me.
ReplyDeleteThat’s odd that you can’t sign in as yourself, Janis. I have noticed sometimes that it depends on the browser I use as to when I can comment on others’ blogs as myself. It’s always okay on Chrome, which is, of course, Google, but on Firefox and Safari, I have to change something in my settings. I can’t remember what it is now, but I Googled the problem and found out what to do that way.
DeletePS, thank you for commenting anyway, though! It’s always lovely to know you’re there, and Anonymous is fine too! 😆 If you just put a J at the end, I’ll know it’s you. Xxx
DeleteZoe looks very relaxed with her friend.
ReplyDeleteShe can relax anywhere anytime, David. 😄
DeleteThat’s tough luck Val, but comfort yourself that you’re not alone in being conned, hope you get your money back and find a reputable supplier for Zoe. Sending love and hugs Lally x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lally. I know. It happens to most of us at some time. Thank you for the kind words. Xxx
DeleteAh yes, the online shopping - I always use paypal so have only had a few slight problems. If the pet food company is a scam you could review them on TrustPilot to let others know - I often look on there first before ordering from a new company!
ReplyDeleteAlways a good idea to check first, TT. I know that myself, but this time I didn’t think to do that. I’ll see if I can get a review onto Trustpilot. Thanks!
DeleteFantastic photo, Val. So sorry about the dogfood. I know the battle, and it's real! Savannah has chronic pancreatitis and finding food that she will eat continues as a 7-year battle. Hope Zoe's arrives in spite of the initial dissappointment. (Steph)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, dear Steph. If it hadn’t been for the allergies, I wouldn’t have been caught out. C’est la vie!
DeleteVal, hopefully the food for Zoe will turn up. The suppliers may have good intentions. Yet, I agree about the Internet scammers. They are all out there pretending to be literary agents and the whole nine yards. Many are looking for a fast buck. Like you, I try to stick with the tried and tested. Good luck! Lynn
ReplyDeleteI still hope so, Lynn. Thank you! I’m not so optimistic now, but you never know! Xx 🤗
DeleteThat's awful, Val.
ReplyDeleteSee below. 😆
DeleteAnonymous no more! That's awful, Val. We really are descending into the Dark Ages with online purchasing and delivery. It's impossible to know who to trust?
ReplyDeleteYes, well, I should have checked them out first, but that’s no excuse. We shouldn’t have to be suspicious of everyone, should we? Thanks for the kind thoughts, though. 🤗
DeleteIt's hard to be hypervigilant in everything we do...
DeleteThat's rotten Val, sadly there's an increasing number of scammers! I hope you get your money back. As for Zoe, that little minx doesn't look the least bit concerned! She's just so sweet although not so much when she rolled in something stinky!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Val, the poor wee thing. However, I cannot imagine a canine with a meat allergy--that is just seems plain and outright 'oxymoronish' to me! But diving deeper into your dilemma, it sounds like you may have been had, unfortunately. (btw, these scammers disgust me, but that's an entirely other post...) In the meantime, what can you feed Zoe, and how does she get her protein? If only they--and us, for that matter--could live on nothing but love and cuddles.
ReplyDeleteSending you, Koos, and sweet Zoe, mountains of love.
Dale xx
You're not alone. You probably already know about this FB page, but just in case.. it's worth a look. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DH1GKgxMm/
ReplyDeleteThe dog photo is absolutely precious! I am 69 years young and live in Montreal, Canada...I have never shopped online! Ever! Even though I use public transportation! I prefer to see what I am buying by going to the store, looking around, checking out prices, etc., and then purchasing whatever I need. And if an item is too big such as a sofa, the store will offer free delivery for a certain amount purchased...in many cases. If not, and you get an item on sale at a great price, it is worth it to pay for the shipping if there is a charge for it, as they bring it right to you and place it where you ask!
