Well, the drought has well and truly broken, hasn't it? In the last weeks, we've had storm Amy, and I believe Benjamin is approaching to shake us out of our shoes. My garden at Crumbly Cottage Mk 1 is buried beneath a carpet of gold, russet and bronze, but the sudden and unpredictable squalls have prevented me from spending time kicking through the fallen leaves, much as I'd love to. I should really rake them all up, but I'd rather look at the glorious colours from the window than risk a soaking. They really are lovely, aren't they?
Last weekend, we had what was possibly our last 'spuddle' on the Hennie Ha when we paid a visit to Vereeniging to do some work on the wooden panels that needed attention before the winter weather renders painting impossible. Daughter 1 and her Lucie came too to both enjoy and assist, and a good time was had by pups and all.

I say it was possibly the last spuddle because the days are drawing in quite rapidly now. I've noticed that just in this past week, the mornings have been much darker and it's a struggle to be up at 7:30, let alone 6:30 which is normal in the summer. Zoe isn't much help either; she's happy to snooze under the covers until it's fully light and is never in a hurry for breakfast when comfortably ensconced in her nest. She's definitely a pup after my own heart, which isn't very useful when I know I should be up and at it.
Anyway, this weekend, the clocks will be going back, giving us a couple of weeks of relief. I've long thought they shouldn't bother changing from winter to summer time. Having lived in a country where there's no daylight saving during the summer, I don't see much point in the hour's adjustment, not from anyone's perspective. That said, those in the know still seem to think it's worth doing, so in that case, I'll stop complaining scribbling now allemaal, and wish you all a good week ending. See you on the other side.

My season of terror, Val, as it heads toward (brrrrrr) winter. How true about daylight savings time. Arizona doesn't change the clocks. I'm thinking it should be my next earthly home. Enjoy your mornings snuggling with Zoe. It's a blessing to have a dog that snuggles and wants to stay in bed in the mornings! God bless y'all. (Steph)
ReplyDeleteAh Steph, you and I share these feelings about winter. I shall pray we'll have a brief, dry and sunny one, but I hope even more that you'll have a chance to spend your days back in Texas or Arizona. xxx
DeleteAutumn is such a beautiful time of the year Val and I quite agree with you about just enjoying the gorgeous colours of the fallen leaves instead of spending (wasting) time raking them up. 😂 We watched a programme on tv last night about boating on one of the many canals here in the UK. I immediately thought how much you and Koos would enjoy going for a spuddle on them as well. Plenty of old, derelict factory buildings along the banks of the canals to bring a smile to your faces and get your cameras clicking madly. 😁💕
ReplyDeleteOh Lorraine, how we would have loved that programme and that canal! if you can remember, maybe you can let me know what it was? I'd love to see it, if possible, but if not, thanks for telling me about it! Bless you! xxx
DeleteI have tons of leaves, too! Last fall my two sets of nieces and one nephew (actually great nieces and great nephew) raked them up in two hours! They had so much fun doing it, too! I have lots of trees in my back yard so I was amazed at how quickly they did it! It took me back to the days of my childhood when my dad raked up leaves and we children jumped in the leaves! We have also had a lot of rain, every day this week. Today we have lake effect rain, which is stronger.
ReplyDeleteLove it when I can catch your blog post!
Amy
Oh Amy, how happy I am to see you here. I have missed you a lot on the various platforms we share, but I do understand that your life has taken a different direction. I love your memories of your nieces and nephews raking leaves. It must be such fun to see them enjoying the fall. Thank you so much for stopping by. Hugs from here to there! xxx
DeleteI too have thought the mornings have been darker this last week, but I have no problem getting Popcorn to come for his breakfast.
ReplyDeleteWe've just had storm Benjamin and as storms go it was a bit of an anticlimax, I hope it wasn't a problem where you are. Take care, David and Popcorn
Hello David. Thank you for your comment and it's always nice to see you here. Now the clocks have changed here, Zoe is more upset by the change in dinner time than she is about breakfast. She definitely doesn't like having to wait an extra hour!
DeleteLove those colours, Val. 🤩 It's the thing about the Atumn I love but I'l less keen on what follows, especially the darkness but I'm not so keen on the damp cold either. 🥶 I'm with Zoe! 😆
