I don't own a TV, but even if I did, I wouldn't need one. From the back deck I can hear every gasp, groan and roar of excitement as the Netherlands team plays good and bad shots, misses the ball, brings on a new player...you name it, every moment is recorded in tumultuous sound.
The pics below are my view this evening as I sit on the Luxor and enjoy the evening air on our own terras. Eat your heart out Koosje! I must say I am enjoying the Luxor's privacy this year. I'm just sorry Koos isn't here to enjoy it too. Still, I haven't been without company and have had two very pleasant evenings with friends and neighbours who have come to enjoy the luxury of our watery amenities. Now all I need is for the World Cup to be over....after all, now SA is out......oh alright.... I will support Holland now...... Go, Oranje, go!!!!
Hi Janys! So nice to see you again. I've missed you, and understand all the work problems you've had, so I'm very happy to see you've had a moment to come visiting. Yes, I'm quite sorry for all the big European teams who've not made it too, but I am looking forward to normality here too. By the sounds of things outside, I'm not going to get it any time soon though :-(

ReplyDeleteWe had a similar experience of hearing but not really watching the match. And by that I mean the signal on the TV that we were trying to watch the match started to break up so much that we had a better idea of what was going on from the sound the neighbours were making.

ReplyDeleteWe get noises here everyday as this city has fans supporting every country! Sometimes the police have to close entire streets because people pour out to celebrate. So, today the dutch were celebrating and the Italians were crying. Congrats to the oranje! I hope that they can go all the way to the final.

All this football has left poor Alfie being pulled every which way. He is obsessed with playing ball and a Dutch friend, Kees, turned up on Sunday with a whole bunch of orange tennis balls, unfortunately someone else had already given him some red and white balls. Poor thing did not know which way to turn!!!!!! Janys, I think it is probably good that Italy are out, I can't wait to return to normality! But at least all the English fans were happy for a while on Saturday!

ReplyDeleteshouts my wife any time the World Cup is mentioned, it being the country of her birth. For having no TV, not bothering with the radio either and living amongst fields. We are neatly isolated from the hype.
I can see from those pictures that Dutch football fans supporting their team in the World Cup is really something else :)

Maria, yes, the Dutch fans take things very seriously indeed, even to the point of putting up banners written in Afrikaans, the SA Dutch based language...lol. Still, I know you're enjoying the games, so I shan't complain any more ;-)
